I was listening to Vol II of ArtWank Radio and one of the lovely guests was artist Sarah Beetson, talking about her work and specifically her ’50 Bucks: Bring On The Sluts’ Series. Inspired by a 2007 trip to Japan, Beetson has said:

“I was overwhelmed by the Japanese vending machine culture – whereby one can purchase almost anything – from beer to bedroom slippers; a microwave dinner to a pair of used panties – from a handy vending machine. I wanted to compare the relationship between the multinational distributor responsible for the machine and the cheap nature of the product vended. The idea of the ‘sluts’ was then stimulated by my accruement of a large collection of vintage pornography.”

Sarah created a collection of 500 small pieces on Moleskin paper and spectators can/could purchase these works for $50 from a Pepsi vending machine. I love the playful and provocative mix of pieces. I adore the rainbow happy pubes and nipples. I appreciate her whimsical and sweeet eye.

A work in progress, Naked Love is a 15 -20 minute erotic film. The film is in a classic animation style with no dialogue, ‘speechless’, and interpreted through music… Sorta kinda like one of my favorite Bugs Bunny cartoons. You can peek on their site to watch all the episodes featuring the film coming together, interviews with the makers and some beautiful thoughts about sex, lust and intimacy

Eastend Cabaret

Last night I saw this pleasure duo perform, guesting was the sennnsational Cabaret Whore, Sarah Louise Young, at The Hospital Club. It was a fabulous evening; I laughed, I cried, I came… We were treated to a mini preview of their Edinburgh Fringe show (a version of the above vid) which had my best gay, Rockwell, cringing (too much vagina in one night for him) and myself, howling. It was an evening of many musical talents too; the saw is seriously is not featured enough in performance: Bravo Victor Victoria and anyone with the balls enough to perform, with aplomb, a song called ‘Is It In Yet?‘ about deflowering virgins found in PC world, has my greatest respect, Bravo Bernadette Byrne…
