MY DRESS ME UP AND SHOOT ME EXPERIENCE

   I met the lovely Steve Hart at the World Burlesque Games Opening Gala, introduced to me by the foxy and Dress Me Up And Shoot Me spokesmodel and strip superstar Dinah Might. After sharing many shows and laughs together, Steve invited me to come and do a tour of his studios and have a little photo playtime with him and his fabulous team.

   Steve Hart Photography is located in Slough, just a short and sweet trip from Victoria station and I made my train with just minutes to spare, clutching my triple soy latte and looking unanimously not fabulous, feeling a bit groggy but mostly veryyy excited, and relieved to not be carrying bags of clothes and costumes – The DM&SM team have all your wardrobe covered if you wish! Sooo I was attending more as a punter, not a pro showgirl…

Steve picked me up at the station and it was a zippy trip to his HQ where his fabulous team was waiting: sparkly Pinky aka Claire, female photographer for those ladies who prefer it and assistant to Steve, graceful Mindy, stylist extraordinaire, lovely Amy, make up and hair girl and delightful Daisy, social networking go-to-gal and studio b****… Hahaha Just kidding Daisyyy, love you! She’s also a writer for an fun new blog called Yellow Bunting, check it out. Steve gave me a quickish tour around his space, which is masssive! I couldn’t believe it! Four different studio spaces, each with several sets and a huge range of over the top and elegant props; each space has a different vibe and I was able to shoot in four different sets in my shoot time, I’ll get the rest next time I visit. There are several walk in wardrobes with dozens of dresses, corsets, shoes, jewels, coats, collars *deep breath* gloves, stockings, bras, mantles, head pieces, slips, underskirts and mooore…

Earlier this month I attended Eroticon, a conference for sex bloggers and erotic writers – it was a pretty goood day! It was nice to see a large span of ages within the different disciplines and it also really highlighted for me the old way and the new way of doing things – it’s not an age thing! There was pride at all ages! For me, the old way is about shame, about hiding, about waiting to be caught out and the new way is saying boldly and brightly ‘This is who I am and this is what I do! You can do it!’ -  I saw this a bit on my panel for ‘Sex In The Media’. I brought up shamelessness and the power of being out and I was happy to see Helen Croydon expand on it in The Guardian and though I wish I had seen mooore love and sexual pride at Eroticon, I think everyone there deserves a big pat on the back for being brave enough to do what they do – out or not!

There was a question about power in anonymity vs public identity, perhaps even posed by myself *hehe* and the response from the majority of the panel was sex writer identity in the media won’t change, that you will be attacked and vilified if you talk about sex publicly. Now I know this some people’s real experience and I know I will face this to a degree myself in future, but I wholly disagree that this is the way forward. I believe the way to make sex ‘more normal’ for the average bear is for us sex writers, bloggers and do-ers to sit up and say ‘Hello! This is who I am, this is what I look like, I’m a lot like you and I looove to fuck!’ *Hahaha* Half kidding! Just something along the lines of ‘Hey! I’m your average lady and I’ve found light and pleasure in sex and you can too!’ Now, I *don’t* think everyone should just out themselves, in your *own* time, in *your* own way is best and everyone has different important reasons for staying ‘in the closet’ but after putting a face to my anonymous blog about a year ago, I’m ready to go to the next level…

I really love Jamie’s manifesto of body/genitalia acceptance and I saw this in action during ‘The Perfect Vagina‘ a documentary about ladies and labiaplasty (among other things) when a lady, who couldn’t look at her own genitals, saw them for the first time in the cast for Jamie’s mold. Sooo when the sweet Sarah Berry (of Fannies Rule) contacted me to say that Jamie would be in town casting for a new project I jumped at the chance to be a part of it.

I journeyed to Sarah’s place and was greeted by a room full of happy and curious cunts, some eager to get in the mold, some there simply to enjoy the sisterhood; I was in a spacey mood but after several cupcakes and quiet chat with ladies I love, I settled in to wait for Jamie’s attention and flipped through his Great Wall of Vagina book…

What would be happening today is the cast of the mold, in which the plaster will be poured, not the final product but well on the way. I had moved on to crisps and red wine when Jamie, bushy for Movember, appeared and announced it was my turn.

I moved into Sarah’s spare room where we would be casting and Jamie ran me through the process. First, he would apply a thick cream to my vulva to protect my sensitive skin and my ish bush, for when taking off the mold. Second, he would apply the blue cast material (Whoops! Forgot what it was called…) and then a little piece of material for backing. Then, waaait and then thirdly, the set cast would be slowly peeled off and voila! Blue Vagina Love!

I want to create more from the fabric of my skin, the canvas of my face and the technicolor of my imagination.
